Presentation Summary: Offers a balanced approach to personal and workplace safety that anyone can learn. Participants are invited to learn various skills to protect themselves in everyday situations at work and in the field. Designed specifically for social workers concerned with the threat to security within their work environment. The presentation includes an introduction to personal safety exercises and practice with simple, but surprisingly effective practical skills. The combined use of proactive personal safety measures, positive communication skills and the basics of self-defense provide the basis for this safety awareness program.
Learning Objectives: Participants will learn to: increase awareness skills for personal insight and control in personal safety situations; develop assertive interpersonal skills to assist in conflict resolution and avoidance; use their physical capabilities in safe yet powerful ways to avoid violence; developmental capabilities to assess threats to personal safety in the workplace; define and apply acquired skills in their practice.
Instructional Methods: Interactive Lecture with group exercises and physical activities (dress appropriately/casually).
